Welcome to Mindful Circles

I am the founder of Mindful Circles, my practice that provides mindfulness life education to children, parents, and school teachers in the San Francisco Bay Area. As an experienced instructor with a Masters in Early Childhood Education, I have provided Mindful Circles seminars, workshops, and courses at schools in the U.S., China, Japan, and Taiwan. I have also volunteered to bring the light and benefits of mindfulness to children in orphanages in Nepal and India.

In addition to the above scope of work, I am compiling all of my Mindful Circles teaching experiences into a series of book. The first of my books has been published in America, China and Taiwan. It is my dream to continue sharing the concept of Mindful Circles Life Education with more people around the world. I believe introducing mindfulness-based education to children, teachers, and parents is the most important work of my life.

After all, the purpose of Mindful Circles is to support adults and children and enable them to live in the world with more awareness of themselves, to know and love themselves, and therefore to understand and love others. The hope this brings can help heal the earth and create a more peaceful world.

The four circles of awareness

As human beings, we have four common aspect of consciousness, which are Body, Thought, Emotion, and Love/Compassion. We can get to know the world around us and ourselves through the lens of these four circles.

Green Circle: CherishINg Your Body and using it mindfully

In Mindful Circles, I use the color green to represent the concept of Body. People generally associate green with nature. In fact, our body is a part of nature. In traditional Chinese thinking, the highest state one can achieve as a human being is in finding the unity of nature and people. In a series of mindfulness exercises designed to increase awareness of your body, you will learn how to take care of and listen to your body so that we can develop the ability to use it wisely and respectfully in harmony with nature.

Blue Circle: Greeting our thoughts as guests and being a good host to them

In Mindful Circles,  I use the color blue to represent Thought. People generally associate blue with water; the thoughts in our minds are fish swimming in a flowing river. As our thoughts come and go, we can treat our thoughts as guests. We see them and recognize them, but we take care not to let our thoughts control or mislead us. In a series of exercises designed to increase awareness of our thoughts, we will learn empower our inner selves by being present, letting us make more conscious and conscientious choices to create the kind of life we imagine.

Red Circle: Accepting our emotions and treating them as friends

In Mindful Circles, I use the color red to represent Emotion. Red gives the impression of directness, frankness, and enthusiasm. Our emotions are more honest and visceral than our thoughts. Often, our emotions visit us unexpectedly, are butterflies visiting the garden of our minds. If we treat these emotional butterflies like friends, they can enrich our lives. In a series of exercises designed to increase awareness of our emotions, Mindful Circles will guide you on how to let go of negative judgments about our emotions, to accept them for what they are and reconcile with them. Thus we can learn to be friends with our emotions, allowing us grow together.

Yellow Circle: We are the source of love and compassion

In Mindful Circles, I use the color yellow to represent Love and Compassion. The color yellow gives us the impression of brightness, warmth, and sunshine. The nature of love and compassion is like the sun radiating warmth selflessly. We are the very source of love and compassion. When we are full of love and compassion, we are like sunshine, warming everyone around us. In a series of mindfulness exercises designed to enhance our awareness of love and compassion, we will let our inner love and compassion manifest themselves like sunlight on a cloudless day, allowing us to share our joy, love, and compassion with others.

My Books

In 2018, I decided to write a series of books that distilled my observations and my experiences teaching and helping children navigate those early, very critical years of their lives. The first book is now available in simplified and traditional Chinese in the U.S., China, and Taiwan. My book shows parents and teachers how they can provide their children with mindfulness life education, either at home or in a classroom environment.

In my first book, I provide 45 mindfulness exercises and games that I specially designed to allow adults and children to practice together in a way that provides insightful interactions. By practicing the mindfulness skills featured in my book, teachers and parents can help their children get to know themselves and deepen their relationships with them.

Mindfulness lets us learn how to connect and therefore helps us to know each other better. The lessons in my books are useful in everyday life, long after you finish learning about math, grammar, and history in school.
